Art hits the beach

We went to see Sculptures by the Sea last weekend in Cottesloe. What amazing work in such a great setting on one of Perth’s prettiest beaches. I think its great having pieces of art so accessible by the public, and getting interest and engaging all ages. Great also to see a variety of artist’s work, in such a broad range of mediums all in the one place!

Jewellery branding

We’ve recently finished a small brand and print job for local jewellery designer Tineke Creations. They needed something unique that could work for business cards and packaging. We designed and printed a square card that fit the bill. It not only works as a memorable business card, it can also be applied to jewellery packaging, combined with a wrap around band, which seals the box. The cards were printed letterpress, an older style of printing which ‘stamps’ an impression into the card, giving more of a textural, bespoke fee.

Sports store rebrand

We have just finalised a branding job for a sports retail store at Next Generation Kings Park, Perth.

The business owners from Platinum Sports contacted us as they were concerned about their business image. They were unsure of what they wanted but were aware they needed help with graphic design to upgrade their image.

After meeting with the owner their target market was identified along with their unique selling point and what image they wanted to project, and we designed a new look for their brand identity.

This new look was then applied to business cards, letterheads, gift certificates, posters and in-store retail signage.

AGDA favourite things

The new AGDA WA Committee were recently asked a few questions about our favourite things and why we were involved in AGDA. Some questions were; what’s your favourite typeface, PMS colour, tool for design and local piece of design. The exercise was a chance for AGDA members to get a better idea of who were on their council. It also made you think hard about what your favourite design things really were!

Forge in the press

We were recently featured in the West Australian’s small business lift-out called SME Pathways. The lift-out covered business success stories and our article discussed how restructuring our business allowed us to maximise our key business operations and staff positions. It also discussed how we were able to focus on our ideal customers, being Mining and the Arts and do more of the work we loved – branding and print design.

AGDA Networking Breakfast

Yesterday I attended the AGDA Networking Breakfast in King’s Park, Perth. It’s a great initiative by AGDA WA for AGDA members to meet and talk to design industry representatives in an informal setting. The breakfast and views aren’t too bad either!

I love Severed Heads

I came across this track recently from Australian electronic band Severed Heads that I hadn’t heard for years. I was blown away by how amazing it really was for a mid 80′s production, and how it still sounds current. Maybe it’s because of the 80′s influence that’s still going on in music, but I still think it’s a great song by an amazing and little appreciated band from this fine country.

And Tom Ellard from the band is still producing music and videos. I think he is an amazingly talented guy and has a great sense of humour. I love when asked ‘When are you coming to New York to perform?’ by a fan on YouTube, Tom replies ‘Where’s New York? Is that near Wollongong?’

AGDA Graduate Event

Yesterday I attended the AGDA (Australian Graphic Design Association) WA Graduate Event at the Fremantle Art Centre. It was a great event which included a range of speakers imparting their knowledge to recent design graduates. The event continued with designer ‘speed dating’, which allowed graduates to show their folio and get feedback from a design professional for 10 minutes, before moving on to another. A great format and a hugely successful event!

Australia Day

We spent Australia Day at Memorial Hill in Fremantle last night. It’s always a great spot to spend the day, plenty of room for kids to run around, and a perfect spot to watch the Fremantle fireworks from.
